There's a lot at stake in today's Kentucky Wildcats vs South Carolina Gamecocks basketball game on the ESPN sports TV network and Watch ESPN3 live streaming.
Kentucky coach John Calipari was ejected from his team's enormous Southeastern Conference road trip to SC before 2 1/2 minutes of the game had passed. Enraged and wild-eyed, Calipari had to be held back by guards Jamal Murray and Isaiah Briscoe for several seconds before regaining his composure and exiting the floor as jeering SC fans waved goodbye to him.
With Kentucky's coach in the locker room, 20-year-old Tyler Ulis ran the Wildcats' offense for more than 37 minutes in Saturday's blowout win at SC.
"We don't need a superhuman effort, we don't need to play above our capabilities, we have to stay interconnected with who we are", Martin said.
Lee rose from left-for-dead status Saturday, putting up 11 points and 10 rebounds, his first double double since November the 30th against Illinois State.
In the post-game press conference, numerous Kentucky players mentioned how they had never seen their coach behave that way, but they also described the inspiration it gave them the rest of the way. It was the second time Calipari had been tossed in Columbia's Colonial Life Arena in the last three years. "We tried to stick together and do it all for coach".
The longtime coach was eventually led off the court.
Payne said Calipari, who didn't speak to media afterward, talked to the team at halftime and apologized for his outburst.
The Wildcats came in tied with the Gamecocks and LSU for first place in the league.
