While not completely reversing course, Microsoft has now come up with a compromise, a website that lists Windows 10's update history and details. The update that arrives for an organization will depend on which service branch they are using. Windows 10 Professional, Enterprise, and Education edition customers can defer the update to the November branch and stay on the July feature set longer - as long as 10 years for some Enterprise customers. Gabe Aul, the corporate vice president of the Engineering Systems Team, described it as: "Best for Insiders who enjoy getting early access to updates for the Current Branch, Microsoft applications, and drivers, with minimal risk to their devices, and still want to provide feedback to make Windows devices great". Aside from Flash Player patches, the company has also released security patches Tuesday for Photoshop CC and Bridge CC, Adobe Experience Manager and Adobe Connect.
Microsoft offers the "Windows Bridge for iOS" developer software as a free open source download on GitHub.
P97 Networks announces the version 2 release of its flagship PetroZone® mobile app on Windows 10. It will update these Windows 10 systems to build 10240.16682.
The site lists key improvements in each update, along with their rollout date and identifier. It does not include links to get more information. Michael Niehaus, director of product marketing for Windows at Microsoft, pointed to both resources in this Microsoft blog post.
MS16-016 resolves a hole in Windows by correcting how WebDAV validates memory; Microsoft wrote, "The vulnerability could allow elevation of privilege if an attacker uses the Microsoft Web Distributed Authoring and Versioning (WebDAV) client to send specifically crafted input to a server".
Microsoft is starting to roll out features to the Fast ring with less testing than it performed in the past.
As Gordon Kelly explains over at Forbes, the end user license agreement (EULA) you sign to when you install Windows 10 gives Microsoft the legal right to collect this data. There have been a large number of drops in calls, and the users have complained that the issue of freezing Skype calls has been spotted more often while on 4G LTE connections than on the Wi-Fi networks.
