Past “American Idol” winners Ruben Studdard Fantasia Barrino return for Season 3

Quite a few of the former "American Idol" contestants and winners will be back during the year to help this last batch of contestants.

Emily Brooke and Lauren Alaina, "Flat on the Floor" - This was really fun!

"Your performance of "Say Something" last night was extremely strong". Urban felt Thomas struggled with the song. Stringfellow advanced to the next round. However, pairing them together to re-create Barrino's iconic "Summertime" performance from Season 3 was ingenious. On stage together, they looked nearly like sisters. In spite of the positive feedback, Negrete was sent packing. The Adele tune could have worked for either them individually, but the chorus was way too low for Sonika, and they just made zero sense as a couple. She ended the night on a great note, showcasing her powerful voice as well as her very natural performance abilities. Vaid moves on to the next round.

Jenna Renae and Scotty McCreery, "See You Tonight" - Really solid.

Sonika Vaid and Caleb Johnson, "Skyfall" Bless Season 13 victor Caleb Johnson for not guffawing when Sonika named "relatives' weddings and school" as her biggest live venues so far. It was a great song choice, and she gave one of the best performances of the night. Jennifer admitted she wasn't sure about Jeneve at first, but "had goosies everywhere" after the performance. Connick noted that it was one of the more emotional performances he has seen. La'Porsha advanced to the next round. Lopez said it truly felt like a real duet. Bourd earned a spot in the next round of competition.

During the duets round, Isabella performed with Nick Fradiani the Season 14 winner's coronation song "Beautiful Life". Keith thought it was good, J-Lo said it was the flawless song, and Harry said he's still trying to figure Gianna out.

Jackson teen Gianna Isabella Petrone was not one of them. She thanked American Idol for pairing her Mackenzie and was excited that she got to "be on stage with this hottie".

The other half of the remaining "Idol" field will go through the same schedule next week - two nights of singing, five of 12 will be cut. Urban noted that she could loosen up even more, and Connick and Lopez both stressed the importance of connecting with what she's singing. Young gets another chance to impress the judges in the next round. Country singers McCreery and Jeneve Rose Mitchell sang together, and Harry told Mitchell, "You're extraordinarily musical". The judges, however, thought it was a freakish performance.

James VIII's version of Kanye West's "Love Lockdown" was a hit with the studio audience, who booed Jennifer when she said the song didn't grab her or the crowd the way it could have. Harry called it a "tremendous" performance, complimenting him on being "aware of the words".
