All affected products have the best by dates or sell by dates between April 26, 2016 and April 26, 2018.
Consumers should not consume the product, which was sold by Costco warehouses in B.C., Alberta, Manitoba and Saskatchewan, according to the Canadian Food Inspection Agency.
"The long shelf life of the recalled frozen produce is of particular concern because consumers could have purchased the products long ago and not realize they have them in their homes", Bill Marler, a personal injury and products liability attorney from Washington, wrote in his blog on food poisoning outbreaks.
According to the CDC, the listeria outbreak, which began in 2013, has affected Washington, California and Maryland.
One person from Maryland and one from Washington have died but health officials do not consider listeria to be the cause of death for either person. On May 3, CRF Frozen Foods of Pasco, Washington expanded the recall to cover almost 400 products sold under 42 brand names. The department found Listeria in frozen organic white sweet cut corn and petite green peas, both from the brand True Goodness by Meijer, which is produced by CRF Frozen Foods.
"We are performing this voluntary recall in cooperation with the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) because these products have the potential to be contaminated with listeria monocytogenes", the May 2 announcement said.
The company said all retailers who received the products have been contacted.
Consumers are advised to return the recalled items for a refund or throw them away. Symptoms usually start within several days of consuming contaminated food and include diarrhea, fever and muscle aches.
There have been no reported illnesses in Canada associated with the consumption of the food, the CFIA said. Since the beginning of the outbreak, eight people have been hospitalized, it added. The recall includes 358 products under 42 brands. Consumers with questions may call the company's consumer hotline at 844-483-3866, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m.to 8 p.m. ET.
