Donald Trump Likely to Name Mike Pence as Running Mate

"He will be making a decision in the future... and will be announcing his vice presidential pick tomorrow at 11am as planned", tweeted Trump senior communication adviser Jason Miller.

Donald Trump told Republican officials he picked Indiana Gov. Mike Pence as his vice presidential running mate, a Republican source said.

During his presidential campaign, Donald Trump has made the decision to go to war in Iraq a major foreign policy litmus test, concluding that Hillary Clinton was "trigger-happy" for supporting what he called a "disaster".

Dozens of people were killed late Thursday in the French resort city of Nice when a truck drove onto a sidewalk and plowed through a crowd of Bastille Day revelers who'd gathered to watch fireworks.

Here's what they are saying about the leaked word that Pence will be joining Trump as a running mate. He maintained Trump's earlier declaration that he will make his announcement public Friday morning.

Trump still faces the herculean task of uniting the Republican Party at the convention. Mr. Pence has been seen as a politically safer choice than two other finalists for the job-New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie and Mr. Gingrich-with whom Mr. Trump had a closer personal relationship and who mirrored his own combative, colorful style.

Trump took notice of Pence during the IN primary, noting that the governor had high praise for him despite endorsing one of his rivals. Trump, joined by daughter Ivanka and sons Donald Jr. and Eric Trump, had breakfast with Pence and his wife, Karen, on Wednesday at the governor's residence in Indianapolis.

"I have no information that I can confirm or deny", he told reporters on the plane.

Indiana Republican committee member Barbara Krisher of Fort Wayne said she has talked with some candidates in recent days, but others might jump in once a Pence decision is known.

The addition of Pence to the ticket may help assuage concerns among conservatives anxious that Trump is too moderate on social issues.

Sessions said, "He's a churchman, a solid conservative".

If Pence accepts a Trump offer, he will have to give up a re-election bid for governor. As it happened, IN turned out to be Cruz's last stand. He came IN second to Trump, capturing 36% of the vote, and he suspended his campaign shortly thereafter. Conservatives had urged him to seek the White House, but his anti-gay reputation hurt his national profile. The Indiana native had previously represented the state in the U.S. House since 2000.

If that name doesn't immediately ring a bell, we'll bring you up to speed on the IN governor and how he apparently has made it through the final round of Political Apprentice to become the billionaire mogul's choice for number two on the GOP ticket. But some of Trump's children, who have been closely advising their father, are said to favor different candidates.
