Pence To Be Trump's Running Mate, According To Roll Call

ABC News reported that Trump has offered Pence to be his running mate, and Pence is reportedly traveling to NY as of Thursday evening.

Pence has had a fraught relationship with IN reporters - not unlike Trump - fueled IN part by his quickly abandoned 2015 plans to launch a state-run news outlet called "Just IN".

Pence has until noon Friday to formally withdraw from the IN governor's race.

The governor's time as a former U.S. Representative can help too, Hutchison said.

"He has experience, not only in Congress, but running several elections", Hutchison said.

"Mike Pence has lots and lots of admirers in the Republican Party", Medved said. After Cruz dropped his bid for the Republican nomination, he quickly endorsed presumptive nominee Trump - a move some of his fellow GOP governors, like Ohio Gov. John Kasich, have been reluctant to make. "This is an excellent choice by Donald Trump, Mike Pence will be a unifying factor and conservatives will be very supportive". Jeff Sessions of Alabama and Newt Gingrich, the former House speaker.

While Pence is tough on immigration, he called Trump's temporary proposed Muslim ban "offensive and unconstitutional". "This was a top priority for conservatives, and Trump came through in a smashing manner".

Pence signed legislation previous year that allowed residents and businesses to ignore state laws that conflict with their religious beliefs, which was immediately criticized by opponents as legal permission to discriminate against gays. "Clearly Mike is one of those".

Rep. Phil Roe, R-Johnson City, agreed with the Pence choice. "Of course it bothers you a little bit, because if you're a competitive person like I am and you're used to winning like I am, again, you don't like coming in second".

In the latest New York Times/CBS News poll, Mr Trump and his Democrat rival Hillary Clinton were in a dead heat as the Republicans head into their presidential nominating convention next week. He said no decision has been made. He served up here, he's been a governor.

Meanwhile, Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg on Thursday said she regretted making critical comments about Trump. "He's a strong conservative pick".

Pence said Trump has "given voice to the frustration of millions of working Americans with the lack of progress in Washington, D.C".

Not all the reviews of Pence's expected selection were good. The final version of the bill included wording that no provider may deny service to anyone based on sexual orientation, race, religion or disability.

"He's a gentleman. In public, he's exactly the way he is in private", said Van Smith, a retired Muncie lawyer and early political mentor who says Pence's political ideology is softened by his personal manner.

In fact, he proudly admits he was the one behind fueling the debate on abortion and pushing republicans to support defunding Planned Parenthood.
