Shanghai SIPG have given the striker permission to find a new club on a season-long loan and he has flown to England to thrash out a deal.
The 29-year-old is thought to be a target for a number of sides, most notably Fulham in the Championship and former side Sunderland in the Premier League.
The Ghana worldwide joined the Black Cats in a then club-record £13million deal from Rennes in 2010 but left the following year to join Al-Ain, initially on loan before making a permanent switch.
The Ghana legend then went on to dismiss ideas that he's exclusively focusing on a top-flight return to English football saying: "I heard about Sunderland and Fulham but we will see what happens".
Reiterating that he does not have control over transfers at Fulham, Jokanovic said: "I was very clear, I am not the person who can answer this".
Gyan, who has been in the south-east of England for the past two days, has been looking for a club before the transfer window ends at midnight on Wednesday.
