England soccer captain Wayne Rooney will retire from global competition after the 2018 World Cup in Russian Federation.
Rooney is England's record goal scorer and took on the armband from Steven Gerrard a year ago.
Allardyce said Manchester United captain Rooney was "hugely respected by his peers" and has "enjoyed the responsibility" as captain.
Rooney said Tuesday he will not play for England beyond the next World Cup, so Russian Federation in 2018 is his last shot at a trophy on the global stage.
With 115 caps, Rooney is likely to surpass Peter Shilton's all-time appearance record in the run-up to Russian Federation 2018 and Allardyce insists that sticking with the player as captain was an "easy" choice. Rooney said: 'Russia will be my last opportunity to do anything with England.
Allardyce named Nigerian trickster Jay Jay Okocha, his former lieutenant at Bolton Wanderers, as the best captain he has worked with. It's a big responsibility at club level, even more so at worldwide level. First and foremost, lead by example.
On and off the field he was the captain you looked for.
"I think he (Rooney) has enjoyed the responsibility".
Since bursting onto the scene with four goals at Euro 2004, Rooney's vital statistics at major tournaments have largely been dire.
"I have had a fantastic global career so far, played a lot of games and enjoyed every minute, but at some point it is going to come to an end", Rooney said.
"Dele Alli has started well too, so that makes it a hard choice". We've seen a lot of teams overachieve with him as manager.
Under new United boss Jose Mourinho this season, he has played behind the striker - which is where Allardyce has told the media he would play for England.
Rooney, who will remain the skipper under Allardyce, would go past David Beckham in the list of the highest capped England players in history. However, Allardyce, who succeeded Roy Hodgson as manager after England's underwhelming Euro 2016 campaign, said there was still time for Barkley to feature in his future plans.
I said straight after the Euros that I wanted to still be involved.
"People say I'm raw, and some people don't like raw".
"I feel like everything that has happened has shaped me to be the player I am and the person I am today. And that's a bit of a concern", Allardyce added, having spent almost six weeks picking the squad for England's first major match since exiting Euro 2016 in the last 16. We have bad memories from the last game obviously. That is also when Allardyce's contract runs to. "If Jack Wilshere was playing every week for Arsenal he would be in the squad".
"The percentage of English players in the Premier League is 31 per cent". From a hat-trick on his debut against Fenerbahce, the two men worked together fruitfully for nine years, with only the occasional contract wrangle getting between them.
Antonio began his career with Tooting & Mitcham, and was loaned out to a series of clubs during his subsequent spell at Reading, before impressing with Sheffield Wednesday, Nottingham Forest and now West Ham. "It's not my department to find those", he said when asked if he had other foreign-born players in mind.
"It's an important one for us".
"The team wasn't playing with the intensity that we need and he was part of it".
