Mexico Upset by Netanyahu's Endorsement of Trump Border Wall

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu gave a shout out to President Donald Trump on Saturday, saying that the U.S.

And even if we accomplished that, it would not solve the problem of illegal immigration.

In an interview earlier this week with Fox News's Sean Hannity, Trump used Israel's wall as a point of reference as he advocated for his wall plan.

Israel maintains another wall along its border with the Palestinian Authority, the likes of which has restricted for decades the freedom of almost 2 million Palestinians confined to the Gaza Strip.

In addition, the Central Committee of the Jewish Community in Mexico broke with normative community policy by slamming Netanyahu, with one comment even comparing Trump's proposed wall to the electrified fences that surrounded Nazi concentration camps during the second World War.

I am sorry that @netanyahu supports Trump.

In his electronic missive, Netanyahu was referring to the three-year-old fence Israel constructed along the entire length of its once-porous land border with Egypt in the Sinai Peninsula.

"Mexico is Israel's friend and Israeli prime minister should behave himself in regard to Mexico properly", it continued.

In his week-old presidency, Trump has communicated by tweets and soundbites.

"The Foreign Ministry expressed to the government of Israel, via its ambassador in Mexico, its profound astonishment, rejection and disappointment over Prime Minister Netanyahu's message on Twitter about the construction of a border wall". Or was he just pandering to Trump? The two nations already share technology related to detecting tunnels.

Trump's wasteful wall should not be built.

All told, 65 countries have some kind of barrier along their border.

Mexico, unsurprisingly, says it will do no such thing. "Beginning today, the United States of America gets back control of its borders", Trump declared.

"Canceling the Iran deal?" Moving the U.S. Embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem?

Israel started construction on its wall in West Bank in 2000.
