American Crime Story: Edgar Ramirez, Darren Criss to star in Versace installment

Darren Criss to play gay killer of Gianni Versace in FX miniseries

While Cohen pressed him on the next two seasons of American Crime Story, Murphy spilled some fresh tea. It chronicles Versace's murder outside his Miami Beach mansion by Cunanan and Cunanan's motivations for the assassination. Cunanan committed suicide before the case was solved, as reported by Entertainment Weekly. Interestingly, while Katrina is the second season of the show, Versace is likely to be completed before the end of production for Katrina, although Katrina will undeniably air first.

The Glee alum - who was recently cast as the Big Bad Music Meister in The CW's two-part Supergirl/The Flash musical event - has signed on to star in FX's forthcoming Versace-themed edition of American Crime Story as serial killer Andrew Cunnan.

The season will explore the 1997 murder of Versace, who founded the Italian fashion house of the same name.

The storyline, slotted for American Crime Story's third season, will be based off "Vulgar Flavors", written by Vanity Fair reporter Maureen Orth in 1999 (see story). The 51-year-old producer denied in an interview with Variety in January that Lady Gaga will portray Donatella Versace.

Following the award-winning success of The People v. O. J. Simpson, Season 2 of American Crime Story will focus on the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, while Season 4 will delve into the Bill Clinton-Monica Lewinsky affair. "The series should only be seen as a work of fiction".
