Security forces in Jammu-Kashmir's Kulgam are now engaged in an encounter with suspected militants.
The incident started during the early morning hours as army received a tip about the militants hidings in Nowpora region. Two policemen had been injured in the exchange of fire, which started after security forces were tipped off about the presence of terrorists. One police personnel also sustained injuries in the operation.
"Different unconfirmed figures on casualties of security forces and terrorists are doing rounds".
"When the militants were challenged, they fired at the forces which triggered the gunfight", the police said.
Two troops were also killed in clashes. According to the latest reports by news agency ANI, bodies of 2 terrorists have been recovered and the encounter is still going on.
Deputy Inspector General of Police talking to media confirmed that youth were killed in the crackdown operation launched jointly by Indian Army and paramilitary Central Reserve Police Force in Frisal area of the district. Encounter still underway in south Kashmir.
