Today, March 17, the 2017 class of Texas Tech medical students and medical students across the nation opened their highly anticipated "Match" letters after months of interviews for residency.
Match Day is the annual event that assigns fourth-year medical students to the hospital or colleges where they will continue their medical training over the next three to seven years.
The students conducting their residencies at BRG and OLOL come from a variety of universities, including Tulane, LSU, Universidad Central de Venezuela, and the University of Alabama-Birmingham.
"The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, which is my number one program that I ranked, so I'm absolutely ecstatic to be going to train there", said graduate Hayden Shafer. "I don't think I've been happier", said Adam Chadwick, a medical student who matched in an anesthesiology program at the University of Florida.
LSU Health New Orleans School of Medicine says 94 of its 193 graduating medical students-or 49%-will remain in Louisiana, and 78% of that pool is entering an LSU Health residency program.
