United Kingdom landmarks join big switch-off for Earth Hour

Starting in Samoa and ending 24 hours later in The Cook Islands, people in 184 countries will send a message calling for action to protect the planet by tackling climate change, WWF said.

This year's Earth Hour switch-off event will be held on Saturday night, from 8:30 p.m.to 9:30 p.m., with the celebration focusing on the youth's role as future climate leaders.

At 8:30 p.m. your local time, turn off the lights for an hour and, through Facebook Live or a live channel of your choice, turn up the tunes using #EarthHourLive. Celebrities such as Maroon 5 are supporting the activity.

"This includes Coastlands Primary School, whose pupil, Rebecca, won the UK-wide Earth Hour poetry competition". "When individuals unite, the power of the collective can create a massive impact as we have seen with Earth Hour observations over the past decade", he added.

The Empire State Building, Space Needle, Golden Gate Bridge, the Colosseum in Rome, the Pyramids of Egypt, the Sydney Opera House and the EIffel Tower are among the many famous landmarks that will go dark.
