Google Launches Live YouTube TV Streaming Service, Monthly Plan Set for $35

For $35 per month, subscribers get access to channels like ABC, ESPN, NBC, Fox, and many others.

It was back in late February when YouTube TV was first announced, unveiling a brand new streaming TV service for a crowding market.

That means YouTube TV will need a way to stand out amongst the competition, either by offering better service (something we've had problems with with other providers), better pricing, or better channel selections.

Viewers can add Showtime and Fox Soccer Plus for an additional charge. More networks will be added in the coming months to the standard subscription fee, including AMC, BBC America, IFC, Sundance TV, WE tv, and BBC World News. However, you can only store recordings for up to nine months.

The membership has free access to YouTube Red's original series and movies. "They wanted the experience that they were used to from YouTube, Spotify and Netflix so that they could watch programming anywhere they wanted, whenever they wanted, wherever they wanted, on any device".

If you sign up for YouTube TV via the website or the Android app you will pay $35, plus taxes, per month.

A bonus for families or groups of friends: Each YouTube TV account comes with up to six independent sub-accounts, each with its own virtual DVR, preferences, recommendations. When the service was announced back in February, the company said that it would be available in the largest United States markets and that it would quickly expand to more cities. These accounts will let you watch as many Major League Baseball games as your heart desires, while your partner simultaneously tunes in to Scandal (for example). The app for the streaming TV works on computers, tablets and phones and can be screened to a television device using Google Chromecast.

YouTube TV, Google's own live streaming cable service is live for NY, the San Francisco Bay Area, Chicago, Philadelphia and Los Angeles. To sweeten the deal, Google will also provide customers with a free Chromecast for a limited time after the first monthly payment.
