A day after winning the Associated Press Player of the Year award in women's college basketball, Kelsey Plum received two more accolades Friday.

CT guard Gabby Williams wipes away tears as she talks with the media following the team's loss to Mississippi State in an NCAA college basketball game in the semifinals of the women's Final Four, Friday, March 31, 2017, in.

Frank Mason III, who led Kansas to its 13th consecutive Big 12 title, was named the AP's men's Player of the Year.

But it's not like Hall of Fame coach Geno Auriemma will return with nothing.

This might be Auriemma's best coaching job as he lost three All-Americans to graduation from last year's team that won a fourth consecutive national championship. Stewart is the only player to win the award unanimously (2016). "I think it took a little bit for it to sink in, our team worked really hard to get to where they are and obviously Coach (Vic) Schaefer has done a phenomenal job of leading the team here".

Lily Edeen, a freshman from Wallingford, said if fans know when the team's bus will arrive, they probably will be there to greet them.

Plum received 30 of the 33 votes from the national media panel that selects the weekly Top 25. More than two years after the brash 6-5 guard left in free agency, the Indiana Pacers re-signed Lance Stephenson as they try to make a final playoff push. But UConn head coach Geno Auriemma is here to assure us that, really, there's nothing too complicated going on here. The USBWA named its All-America team Wednesday and three UConn players - Napheesa Collier, Gabby Williams and Katie Lou Samuelson - were among the 10 players honored.

It is the ninth time Auriemma has won the award, but the first time winning the award in back-to-back seasons.

"Every time I keep doubting them, every time I keep saying to them, "alright, it's coming, it's coming" they just look at me and go (sarcastically), 'yeah, OK, '" Auriemma said.

"I was around it my whole life so I could probably dribble a ball before I could walk, but it was never something that he forced upon me", Carly Thibault said. There are plenty of women who do want to coach, and the challenge may be providing more pathways that can get them there and giving them serious consideration when they apply. The victor will be revealed on April 7 in Chicago, the site of this year's Frozen Four. Javier Fernandez led the men's event at the figure skating world championships in Helsinki after the short program. "There were just a lot of challenges going into this season".

According to the NCAA's race and gender database, 56 percent of Division I women's teams were coached by women in 2015-16, the most recent season of available data. This season, she had 1,109 points, which broke the NCAA season scoring record. Plum finished with 3,527 career points after Washington was eliminated in the Sweet 16.

Plum shot 52.9 percent from the field, 42.8 from three and 88.7 at the foul line while leading Washington to a historic season in 2016-17, finishing with a program-record 29 wins. "With those things in mind I was able to go out and play the game I love and had a great time doing it".
