Trade order, campaign rally on Trump's 100th day

President Trump is the first president in several decades not to attend the dinner, where he has been mocked ruthlessly in years past. Reagan, at the time, was recovering from an assassination attempt.

The White House says the president intends to sign an executive order Saturday that will direct the Commerce Department and the USA trade representative to conduct a comprehensive study of the nation's trade agreements. "The [media] are trapped at a dinner which will be very, very boring".

In a performance that suggested the USA president was still in election mode, he repeated his scathing attacks on the media and his well-worn pledges to build a wall, destroy Islamic State, drain the swamp and revive the military.

He said his administration has begun ending the "offshoring" of American jobs, and is eradicating criminal gangs and cartels by cracking down on border security.

Mr Trump, who this weekend became the first US President since the 1980s to skip the White House Correspondent's Dinner, was introduced by vice President Mike Pence.

Fox News, a favorite among conservatives, topped its website with an article praising Trump's record under the headline: "100 days of disruption: How Trump rewrote the presidential playbook as Dems tried to derail plans".

A New York Times editorial titled "100 Days of Noise From Donald Trump" excoriated his ignorance of policy and politics and warned about his danger to American institutions.

Despite historic Democrat obstructionism, President Trump and Congress have passed more legislation in the first 100 days than any President since Truman by enacting 28 laws.

The president predicted The Times soon would only exist on the internet because the paper is becoming increasingly smaller, saying the paper would soon look "like a comic book". And that's because he lives in Moscow, it is a very long flight.

He then noted that The Times lost approximately $1.3 billion after buying The Boston Globe before it "gave it away". The president himself seems keenly aware that the day is historically a symbolic moment for the media, pundits, the country and perhaps even much of the world to assess his young presidency. "But that's what we have". "I really feel that he is doing everything in his power to help us with a big situation".

Participants in the People's Climate March said they objected to Trump's rollback of restrictions on mining, oil drilling and greenhouse gas emissions at coal-fired power plants, among other things. And we are not the enemy of the American people. He chose not to attend because of what he said was unfair treatment by the press.

Trump spent the first 15 minutes of his speech criticizing the media coverage of his administration.

More than five months after his victory and two days shy of the 100-day mark of his presidency, the election was still on Trump's mind.

VAN HOLLEN: Well, the major scale for the Democrats right now is to beat at the destructive Trump agenda.

"I could not possibly be more thrilled than to be more than 100 miles way from Washington's swamp", he said, "spending my evening with all of you and with a much, much larger crowd and much better people, right?"
