OUR PREDICTION: The Pirates have won five straight in Cole's last five starts against the Braves and are 15-6 in their last 21 games against Atlanta overall. He batted fifth in this one and is capable of providing decent deep-league fantasy value out of that spot. May.

Pittsburgh Pirates manager Clint Hurdle (13) is ejected by umpire Phil Cuzzi (10) after arguing in the fourth inning of a baseball game against the Atlanta Braves, Monday, May 22, 2017, in Atlanta.

The big offensive performances came from Ender Inciarte, Brandon Phillips, and Matt Adams. The Pirates registered only five hits on Sunday but came away with a 1-0 victory, scoring the game's lone run when David Freese was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded in the sixth inning. Hurdle then charged out of the dugout and was quickly tossed. That ended Folty's night; he ended up pitching five-plus, allowing eight hits, two runs (one earned), with two walks and five punchouts. The latter is very impressive (5 of the 8 starts have been below 15.0) because it indicates Cole has been able to get through a majority of his innings pretty economically. Jim Johnson pitched the ninth for his ninth save. He had lasted at least six innings in eight straight starts and allowed no more than two earned runs in six consecutive starts.

Cole had two strikeouts, two walks and 10 hits for five runs in 4 2-3 innings, his shortest outing of the season. But Mercer left the game in the eighth inning with discomfort after taking a grounder off his right hand and is listed as day-to-day. Atlanta manager Brian Snitker indicated rookie 3B Rio Ruiz will remain on the roster when Garcia returns. "Good pitches, bad pitches, foul balls, close was just one of those innings". Loney had signed with Triple-A Gwinnett but saw his chances in Atlanta diminish when the team acquired 1B Matt Adams.

The 33-year-old Loney signed a minor league deal with the team on Thursday after the Braves learned first baseman Freddie Freeman will miss about 10 weeks with a fractured left wrist.

Over on the Braves' side, they're going with veteran RHP RA Dickey on Tuesday.
