Chicago Bears deal again, take D-II TE Adam Shaheen

"Marathe called the Bears".

This year's NFL Draft was chock-full of surprises and insanity. Seeing the Bears draft Trubisky kind of reminds me of the Cincinnati Bengals drafting a QB in 1999 with similar limited experience on the Division I level, Akili Smith. He suggested that the team already has a franchise quarterback.

If things went sour with the Browns, likely through no real fault of Trubisky's, he'd be branded as yet another on a long list of Cleveland quarterback busts, something he'd have to own every time he goes home.

When the Bears selected Mitchell Trubisky with the No. 2 pick in the 2017 NFL Draft, they tainted their relationship with Mike Glennon, according to the Chicago Tribune's Rich Campbell.

"There are times when you've got to be aggressive and when you have conviction on a guy, you can't sit on your hands", Pace said.

What makes this pick more of a boneheaded move?

"Then why'd they go get (free-agent quarterback Mike) Glennon?".

And that it had been months since Trubisky had any contact with anyone associated with the team.

"I think if we want to be great you just can't sit on your hands", Pace said about his decision to move up one spot and pick second. "We were watching the TV (in the green room) and the commissioner said my name and me and my family just celebrated".

The Bears, having finally moved on from Jay Cutler, traded up to land Trubisky, an unpopular choice among fans because he started only 13 games in college and probably isn't ready to play this season.

The Chicago Bears shocked the world on Day 1 of the NFL Draft when they traded up to No. 2 in order to select quarterback Mitch Trubisky.

In his final season at North Carolina, Trubisky threw for 3,748 yards, 30 touchdowns and six interceptions. I was at North Carolina for four years. "I have high expectations for myself and what I'm capable of in the future and I love ball, so for me it's all about just playing football, continue to play the game I love and bring the winning tradition back here to Chicago".

At 6-6 and 278 pounds, Shaheen was the tallest and heaviest tight end at the NFL Combine. That might come from ownership, from the fan base, or even from within the coaching staff. Chances are, Trubisky will be expected to be ready to perhaps be the starting quarterback before 2018 if Glennon doesn't work out.

If the Bears, and their fans, are patient with Trubisky, he could very well develop into the type of quarterback that can carry a team to a Super Bowl.
