The Dhola-Sadiya bridge connects Assam with Arunachal Pradesh. "I am eagerly awaiting this opportunity to interact with people of Assam", Modi tweeted Thursday night.
Prime Minster Narendra Modi on 26 may said that the Dhola-Sadiya bridge will bring economic change in the northeast region and it will be named after renowned singer Bhupen Hazarika.
Addressing a huge public rally in Gogamukh in Assam's Dhemaji district, on the Assam-Arunachal Pradesh border, Modi said his government has decided on "Panch path" (Five Ways) for the overall development of northeastern states.
The government is giving importance to development of the Northeast because the countrys progress greatly depends on harnessing the potentials of the region like tourism, power generation, etc.
Despite coming to power with an absolute majority, the prime minister has been silent on Lokpal, Singhvi said. The cost of the project is about 950 crores.
"The bridge will not only save money, reduce travel time but it comes as a foundation for the beginning of a new economic revolution".
The bridge reduces travel time from Assam to Arunachal Pradesh by almost 5 hours, which will speed up movement of troops and battle tanks closer to the border with China. The prime minister will also inaugurate a slew of other infrastructure projects in the state aimed at developing the North-East region. "Lakhs of tourists would also come to Kamakhya temple and improve the economy", he said.
A vehicle carrying the prime minister, Union minister Nitin Gadkari, Assam Governor Banwarilal Purohit, Chief Minister Sarbanada Sonowal and senior government officials then passed over it. The Prime Minister said the Government's aim is to provide cheapest and best of health facilities to the poor and needy and it has thus, come up with a national health policy using a holistic approach after a span of 15 years. This bridge will help people in travelling to Arunachal from Assam and will also save their time by over 4 hours. Promising a "new India" by 2022, Modi said he being a small man from a modest background would continue to strive for doing big things to the common people of the country surmounting all the hurdles. He said the Union Government has made a decision to name the Dhola-Sadiya bridge after the great musician, lyricist and poet, Bhupen Hazarika.
