Ryan Pace has been very careful with the moves he's made to overhaul the Chicago Bears roster.
Bears fans became incredibly frustrated with former passer Jay Cutler - for reasons spanning from his personality to his lack of winning - but there's no denying that he was an average-to-above-average quarterback, statistically speaking, for many of his seasons with the team.
The Bears tweeted a series of videos and photos Friday of Trubisky's journey to the team's headquarters. "It was an unreal moment and I can't wait to get started".
Mitchell Trubisky didn't see it coming either. I'd expect a lot of efforts to trade down throughout the rest of the draft, but this immediately puts the Bears in a precarious position of filling talent elsewhere.
"When Ryan Pace in Chicago went up into 2 and took the quarterback, that surprised a lot of people, I think". "I'm just going to do the right things like I've always done; stay true to myself and you've got to be a leader - you've got to be the first one in the door and last one out". I'm going to stick to what I know and what I do and just continue to learn from the coaches and the rest of these players in the league.
The Browns chose to grab Texas A&M defensive standout Myles Garrett rather than address their biggest need for a long-term quarterback.
"It's my job to go in there and prove them right that they made the right decision", Trubisky said.
Trubisky's father, Dave, did not sound disappointed about his son's next destination as a quarterback. The teams not only swapped their first-round picks, but Chicago also gave up its third- and fourth-round picks, as well as a third-round pick in 2018. My favorite player growing up was Walter Payton.
"I'm looking forward to wearing that Chicago Bears jersey", said Trubisky.
Competition at QB should be interesting in the Windy City.
They chose to pay Mike Glennon, a 27-year-old career backup with 18 career starts, $18.5 million as a free agent. 27 and 91 overall picks this year to Buffalo to acquire a successor to Alex Smith, who has two years left on his contract.
"It really doesn't matter; you guys can call me whatever you want", Trubisky told reporters. I think everybody should respect that. So I look forward to learning from him and the other veterans on the team. "I just have to learn the offense as quick as possible and help the Chicago Bears win". Staley is the former defensive coordinator at John Carroll, and, like Trubisky's father Dave, is a Perry graduate. Yet three went in the first dozen Thursday night, with two surprising trades putting the Bears and Chiefs in position to grab QBs.
