"A few months ago, an Iraqi poetess, when the Saudi Arabian Foreign Ministry cast doubt on her country's [Iraq] election, responded to him this way: 'Your only election was [held] when your tribes held collective consultation to murder the Prophet [Muhammad]'".
What's important now isn't to worry about what could have been but instead to make the most of the existing situation: Iran, under the rule of expansionist, anti-Western Shia leaders, is doing all it can to undermine the rest of the Middle East and reassert the pre-eminence it enjoyed during the Persian Empire.
President Donald Trump delivered exactly that message during his visits to Saudi Arabia and Israel.
On the arms deal, Rouhani added, "We don't need that". A video of the dance shows Trump bopping back and forth with a smile on his face.
Cardin, arguing for the legislation, said Iran's leaders are taking the country "on a path of destruction".
Relations were further hit last weekend when U.S. President Donald Trump visited Saudi Arabia and accused Tehran of supporting terrorism in the Middle East.
Sanctions also would be applied to those who support Iran's terror operations, including the IRGC, which is not now designated as a terror organization by the United States.
Mohammad Mohaddessin, Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the National Council of Resistance of Iran, said: "Rouhani's first term only saw a spike in suppression, executions, injustice and poverty, and an increase in Iran's meddling in neighbouring countries and expenditures on ballistic missiles, military and security projects".
The Iranian president, however, did not rule out a meeting with his United States counterpart. "There is no doubt in this", Mr Rouhani said.
"Unfortunately, the Americans have always made mistakes in our region", Rouhani said, accusing the USA of "lacking knowledge" of the region.
Trump's caution showed. He did not weigh in on Israeli settlements, the status of Jerusalem or even whether the US would continue to insist on a two-state solution giving the Palestinians sovereign territory.
He added that Russian Federation and Iran are present in Syria at the request of Syria's legitimate government and based on the principles of worldwide regulations, saying Tehran and Moscow would continue their cooperation to promote peace and stability in the region, particularly in Syria.
