Just two days after more than 23 million Iranians handed a second term to incumbent moderate President Hassan Rouhani, Secretary of State Rex Tillerson said he'll talk with his Iranian counterpart Mohammad Javad Zarif "at the right time".
The Iranian president has pledged to reform and revive the country's ailing economy, and do so by continuing his efforts to attract foreign investment and boosts worldwide trade - a direction that has now been widely approved by the Iranian people.
An arms deal worth almost $110 billion that Saudi Arabia and the United States signed Saturday is meant to counter Iran's "malign" influence in the region, U.S. Secretary of State Rex Tillerson said.
"They are exhausted from 40 years of conservatives' management style", said Soroush Farhadian, a Tehran-based political analyst who backs reformists.
"South Africa views Iran as a strategic trading partner in the Middle East and Central Asian regions".
Speaking alongside Israel's president, Reuven Rivlin, at his residence in West Jerusalem on Monday, Trump said: "There is a growing realization among your Arab neighbors that they have common cause with you in the threat posed by Iran".
After the meeting of Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev with his counterparts from Russian Federation and Iran - Vladimir Putin and Hassan Rouhani in Baku in August 2016, the three leaders agreed to form new tripartite regional format that has every chance to become one of the most important factors in regional policy.
"Who can say regional stability can be restored without Iran?"
Rouhani sealed a second term in office after he won Friday's election with more than 57 percent of the vote.
Tillerson told reporters that in Trump's conversations over the weekend with the Saudi king and others in the royal family, "We were focused on this fight against terrorism primarily".
The US and its Arab allies in the Gulf respond that Iran and Russia's support for Syrian President Bashar al-Assad has helped perpetuate the chaos. In a Saudi speech Sunday, the president called the country the world's biggest sponsor of terrorism.
"The Americans do not know our region, that's what the catch is", Rouhani said in response to a question from The Associated Press.
NASR: Well, so far, the administration has not actually ripped up the deal, but it is threatening to put additional sanctions on Iran for other sets of issues which in effect will negates whatever economic benefits Iran was going to get out of the deal.
The military package includes tanks, combat ships, missile defense systems, radar and communications, and cybersecurity technology.
