House intel panel demands 'Comey tapes' as Trump razzes on their existence

Comey gave ammunition to the president's side, too, particularly by admitting that he had orchestrated the leak of his account of his most critical meeting with Trump with the express goal of spurring the appointment of a special counsel, which he accomplished.

First, he'll hold a news conference at the White House with the visiting president of Romania Klaus Iohannis, where questions about Comey's testimony are sure to come up.

When asked if he had tapes of his discussions with former Federal Bureau of Investigation director James Comey, President Donald Trump said that he would answer that question "in the very near future".

But a day after the closely watched hearing, Trump struck back with an early morning tweet: "Wow, Comey is a leaker".

In a joint press conference with Romanian President Klaus Iohannis, Donald Trump faced reporters' questions on Comey's Thursday testimony about Trump's alleged involvement with the Russian Federation investigation.

Meanwhile, Democratic lawmakers and other critics say Comey's clams that Trump leaned on him to somehow drop the Russian Federation investigation could amount to an obstruction of justice.

KARL: And did you ask you to pledge loyalty?

During nearly three hours of statements Thursday before the Senate Intelligence Committee, Comey described himself as "stunned" by Trump's "very disturbing" and "very concerning" behavior towards him. "He did say under oath that you told him to let the Flynn, you said you hoped the Flynn investigation, he could let it go".

On June 9, Trump took to social media to respond to Comey's testimony.

Collins, a member of the Senate intelligence committee, which is investigating Russia's interference in the 2016 election, said Comey's motivation "may have been a good one".

"Despite so many false statements and lies, total and complete vindication", Trump wrote.

A person close to Trump's legal team has said a complaint would be filed with the Justice Department.

"I'm not hinting at anything", Trump said, but then he teased, "You'll be very disappointed".

"I didn't say that", Trump insisted Friday, before heading to his New Jersey golf club in Bedminster where he will spend the weekend.

"I found him to be credible, candid and thorough", Collins said of Comey on MSNBC's "Morning Joe". After each of his seven one-on-one meetings and phone calls with the president, Comey said, he detailed the interaction in a memo because he believed that Trump might lie about what had happened. These were the notes he asked a friend to leak to the press. "I am also deeply concerned about the Attorney General's role in firing Director Comey in light of his recusal from the Russian Federation investigation". The officials were not permitted to speak publicly about legal matters still under consideration.
