The original Wizarding World of Harry Potter at Universal Orlando is getting an all-new thrill ride! The last day you can ride Dragon Challenge is Monday, September 5; the park will close the ride the next day.
"The new attraction will be one of the most highly-themed coaster experiences we've created", Universal said on its blog.
Of course, those clues are about as helpful as a golden egg out of water.
The announcement made earlier today on the Official Universal Orlando Blog touts, "This ride is going to redefine the category and transport you to thrilling places, drawing you into even more exciting adventures within the wizarding world".
One untouched option that comes to mind is a riff on the Shrieking Shack, particularly as it appears in the never-ending climax of Prisoner of Azkaban.
While the concept of riding a dragon fit well within the theming of the Harry Potter land - and the well-decorated queue won favorable reviews from fans - the bare roller coaster tracks looming over the village of Hogsmeade detracted from the otherwise exacting look of the land.
Under the guidance of the Universal Creative team, the theme park will join forces with Warner Bros. and the production design team from the Harry Potter films to bring the new roller coaster experience to life.
This new roller coaster at Islands of Adventure is going to be the latest addition to a world that spans both parks at Universal Studios Orlando.
In the meantime, you've got just over a month left to get your final rides in before the Dragon Challenge ends for good. Does it really matter that this coaster is placed in Hogsmeade?
Since the park is staying tight-lipped about the theme of the ride, that leaves fans plenty of room to speculate.Entertainment Weekly poses a few options: perhaps the Shrieking Shack, with time travel as a key part of the experience, or perhaps a Forbidden Forest adventure featuring Newt Scamander of Fantastic Beasts.
