Costa is now training alone in Brazil having been told by Blues boss Antonio Conte that he was no longer needed in west London.

There is no timeframe for Costa to return to England and the expectation remains that he will be sold to Atletico in the final three weeks of the transfer window, though the Spanish club remain some way off meeting Chelsea's valuation of the 28-year-old. The club knows my priorities.

Conte and Chelsea are adamant Costa was aware of the situation in January.

"When you look at Morata's numbers you know the guy can score goals". He didn't play a lot but I think he adapted himself well in our style of football.

"Matic and Diego [Costa] are two great players". I'm happy to do this job. "But Chelsea have signed Bakayoko, who made a great season at Monaco, to reinforce our team". He has a way on the pitch, but he is a super good guy and very humble. "But he is a great loss for us".

"I think he has good prospects for Chelsea - for now and the future. The atmosphere at Chelsea is very good".

'He was the best player in the league alongside Harry Kane and N'Golo Kante last season and it is really important he performs to his standard if Chelsea are to do well this time around.

The 29-year-old was a key part in Conte's title-winning side last time out as the Blues secured 30 wins to set a new English top-tier record in a 38-game season.

"Chelsea have broken up that partnership and strengthened their rivals".

"If you have to give your evaluation it's right not to put Chelsea to be a favourite", he said. Of course, the battle for the title is always against five or six teams, but Premier League is a very hard championship because you can not predict any result. For this reason, this challenge will be very tough.

"It was the same last season".

United did not finish lower than third in the Premier League era under Sir Alex Ferguson, but since his retirement have ended seventh, fourth, fifth and sixth.
