According to Matt Law's report in the Telegraph, Chelsea have yet to follow-up on a rejected £15 million bid made "earlier in the window" for Leicester City for midfielder Danny Drinkwater, who's now sidelined with a thigh injury.

Antonio Conte has expressed his need for more signings and claimed this week the club are working hard behind the scenes to bring people in.

A new central midfielder appears to be a priority and the newspaper says Chelsea are ready to intensify their efforts to sign Drinkwater after Conte made the Leicester star one of his prime targets.

With Lewis Baker heading to Middlesbrough on a season-long loan, as the Telegraph report, Conte is in desperate need for another midfielder and it's believed he will look to step up his pursuit of a top quality central midfielder with three weeks of the transfer window remaining.

The Daily Telegraph is reporting that the west London side are ready to make another attempt to lure the 27-year-old midfielder to Stamford Bridge after failing with their first bid to sign the England global.

And while Kante has since departed to Stamford Bridge, Drinkwater is still contracted to Leicester, despite being interested in a move to the London club.

Nemanja Matic has already left the Blues for Manchester United amid fears he would not get in ahead of N'Golo Kante and new signing Tiemoue Bakayoko.

"You know when you have good players that there might be interest from other clubs but I wouldn't sleep at night if all the scenarios that you (the media) put to me happened".
