Darren McFadden rushed six times for 28 yards in Saturday's preseason game against the Rams, adding a five-yard reception. Elliott was among several players on the Cowboys inactive list, despite his suspension not slated to begin until the start of the regular season. With Dak Prescott being the starting quarterback, always remember he was the third-string option last season at the start of training camp.
Elliott is expected to appeal the NFL's decision to suspend him for six games.
"Obviously we know this was something that could happen", Jones said of Elliott's suspension, per 105.3 The Fan in Dallas.
Jones hasn't made any public statements since the Elliott suspension has been announced.
Elliott has three days from receipt of the letter to file an appeal, and assuming he does so, he will have a hearing within 10 days of his filing.
"I admit that I am far from ideal, but I plan to continue to work very hard, on and off the field, to mature and earn the great opportunity that I have been given".
In a letter to Elliott informing him of the league's decision, NFL special counsel for conduct Todd Jones said advisers brought in by the league "were of the view that there is substantial and persuasive evidence supporting a finding that (Elliott) engaged in physical violence against Ms. Thompson on multiple occasions during the week of July 16, 2016".
That would constitute a major on-field setback for Dallas, which relied heavily on the rookie running back last season and was rewarded with a 13-3 record and an NFC East title. Elliott's suspension is just the latest in a long list of Cowboys off-field woes during the summer.
The Dallas Cowboys have a bit of a decision to make when it comes to their third string quarterback position for the 2017 National Football League season.
The 2016 National Football League rushing leader was suspended despite prosecutors in Columbus, Ohio, deciding a year ago not to pursue the case involving Elliott's girlfriend at the time in the same city where he starred for Ohio State.
