Roberto Aguayo cut by Buccaneers following rough preseason game

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers really reached for kicker Roberto Aguayo when they drafted him in the second round of the 2016 NFL Draft.

Aguayo was on notice after making just 22-of-31 field goal attempts as a rookie and missing two extra points. After Aguayo's struggles Friday night in a preseason game against the Cincinnati Bengals, the Bucs have cut him.

After quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick hit paydirt from six yards out to give Tampa its first touchdown, Aguayo lined up...and missed the extra point.

Nick Folk, who was signed in the offseason to compete with Aguayo, made his only field-goal attempt Friday night, a 45-yarder.

"Honestly, the extra point felt good; I know I pushed it a little bit, and I felt hopefully it would stay in but it broke right". "You know, I keep saying it, I can't say it anymore. When you're a kicker, you've got to make your kicks", Koetter said. "Unlucky", Aguayo said after the game.

It should be noted that Aguayo never missed a kick in his entire college career. "Got in field goal range and the chance to kick one, go for an onside kick and, just, you'd like to keep your chances alive as long as you can to be in the game and that just ended our chances". I hit it good and it just started to fade. It was starting down the line and it just kept fading. I want to change that. You wanted to come out and be ideal. He connected on 23 of 24 field goals during the Seminoles' national title run in 2013 and was a Groza award finalist in 2014 after converting 27 of 30 field goals. His 71 percent on field goals was the lowest in the NFL. "It's a new day".
