An army man was killed and four others suffered injuries as a gunfight rages in Awneera village of Shopian in southern part of Kashmir on Saturday, police said.
The gunfight had started last night and government forces including of army's 3 RR, 55 RR and SOG had started searches to find the militant bodies.
Security forces suspecting the presence of terrorists, search operation has begun in Awneera village of Shopian in Kashmir valley on Saturday. Two soldiers later succumbed to injuries, they said.
However, this morning as the searches were going on, militants again opened fire which was retaliated by the forces, triggering off a fresh gunfight.
When this report was filed the identity of the soldiers could not be immediately ascertained. However, there is no confirmation about the number of militants killed in the operation.
Among those trapped, the reports said include some top commanders of Hizbul Mujahideen and Laskar-e-Toiba.
Police also denied rumours that a mosque was damaged during the gunfight between the security forces and the militants.
Meanwhile, stone pelting clashes erupted near the encounter site.
