Talented Karnataka batsman Manish Pandey is expected to make a comeback into the Indian limited overs squad for the upcoming series against Sri Lanka, which could well be veteran Yuvraj Singh's last chance to revive his floundering global career. Experienced fast bowlers Umesh Yadav and Mohammed Shami have been rested, probably keeping in mind the option of an extra spinner in the spin-friendly Sri Lankan conditions. Karnataka batsman Manish Pandey and Mumbai's Shardul Thakur were included in the 15-man squad announced after a two-hour long selection meeting.
Yuzvendra Chahal, Kuldeep Yadav and Axar Patel are likely to handle the slow bowling duties.
The five match ODI series will commence from August 20, while, the last game will take place on September 3.
India, who are now in Sri Lanka, have already sealed the Test series 2-0, with the third Test now being played. KL Rahul and Manish Pandey, both of whom missed the 2017 Champions Trophy due to injury, made comebacks, while Mumbai batsman Rohit Sharma, who captained Mumbai Indians to their third IPL title in 2017, was named the vice-captain.
