Singer Rico Lavelle took a knee after singing the national anthem at Sunday's Detroit Lions game. They were Grady Jarrett and Dontari Poe. FOX did not show the players kneeling during the broadcast. Safety Glover Quin stood for the anthem between the women, arm in arm. That includes Arthur Blank, whose Falcons are playing at Ford Field.
The Falcons are 4-1 ATS in their last five games in week three and 8-2 ATS in their last 10 games on the road while the Lions are 6-2 ATS in their last eight games at home but winless against the spread in their last four against a team with a winning record.
When he took the field, LaVelle was wearing what one Twitter fan described as an Axel Foley-style Lions varsity jacket.
Quarterback Matthew Stafford also appeared to lock arms with cornerback Darius Slay, a subtle gesture that's notable because of his wife's public opposition to anthem protests. "The NFL has historically been a strong catalyst for positive change and I'm proud of the way our players, coaches and staff use that platform to give back to our community and strive to be good citizens making a positive impact on this and future generations".
A group of Saints players remains seated during the national anthem.
Trump was clearly referring to National Football League player and free agent Colin Kaepernick, who originally took a knee during the anthem a year ago to protest police brutality against black people, and other civil rights issues.
