She said she was concerned that there was still no solution to the crisis, adding she supported efforts by Kuwait and the United States to mediate an end to the dispute.

In Berlin, the emir reiterated that his country is open to negotiations with its neighbors, saying through a translator that "Qatar is prepared to take a seat at the table to solve this problem".

"We are all fighting terrorism to ensure security but we must focus on the roots and causes of terrorism", he said while observing that there may be differences with some Arab countries in identifying the roots of terrorism.

Germany will continue its contacts through diplomatic channels to seek a solution to the crisis, she said, adding that it was agreed during the talks to encourage Kuwait to continue its efforts to resolve it.

Sigmar Gabriel, Germany's foreign minister has said the country's intelligence service would play a role in clearing up accusations that Qatar supports "terrorist" groups.

The comments, repeated on multiple occasions since the dispute in June, came during "excellent and frank" talks with Merkel, in which the two leaders discussed the months-old Arab blockade on Qatar.

Emmanuel Macron also had a conversation with Emir, the President left the Elysée Palace without speaking to the press.

The conference was organized by Khalid al-Hail.

With regard to the position towards some German companies in which Qatar has invested and now facing economic difficulties, His Highness the Emir said that Qatar has great confidence in the German economy and it is a strategic partnership.
