MI kicker Quinn Nordin tied a school record with five field goals as the Wolverines knocked off Army 29-13. They have 91 total yards in the game, all from the rush. When asked about the play of his red zone offense after the game Jim Harbaugh said,"I thought both teams played very well red zone defense today".
"I feel good", he said.
MI running back Karan Higdon (22) scores a touchdown in the fourth quarter of an NCAA college football game against Air Force in Ann Arbor, Mich., Saturday, Sept. 16, 2017.
MI entered the contest as a 23-point favorite at game time and came right out with senior quarterback Wilton Speight throwing from the outset. Wilton Speight didn't throw for many yards and the running game could've been better.
MI has survived its non-conference schedule despite the offensive woes. We just challenge ourselves to keep pushing.
MI running back Ty Isaac (32) rushes as Air Force defensive back Marquis Griffin (2) defends in the second quarter of an NCAA college football game in Ann Arbor, Mich., Saturday, Sept. 16, 2017. He barely stepped out of bounds, nixing what would have been a 62-yard TD bolt.
Speight completed two pass plays of at least 30 years early in the second quarter but MI had to settle for Nordin's 26-yard field goal.
Running back Chris Evans also fumbled the ball on the team's second drive of the game. Mike Gillette (1988), J.D. Carlson (1990) and K.C. Lopata (2008) also kicked five field goals in a game for the Wolverines. We want first down, second down, third down, out.
Nordin's 35-yard field goal gave MI an early advantage. With just:02 showing on the clock in the first frame, Luke Strebel booted a 37-yard field goal to knot the score at 3-all. Worthman set up the score, breaking off a 34-yard run on a keeper off the right edge. MI has defeated Air Force in all three meetings.
Nordin then easily made a 49-yard field goal with only 4 seconds remaining in the second period to put MI up 9-6 at intermission.
"Whatever they call me out to do, I'm going to do to the best of my ability", Nordin said. The Wolverines - an error-prone offense still holding them back - did not.
Peoples-Jones' touchdown was the first of his career.
His 79-yard flight gave MI separation, at 16-6.
The seventh-ranked Michigan Wolverines are getting all they can handle this week at home against the Air Force Falcons.
Quinn Nordin stole the show again this week.
Nordin made it 5 for 5 45 seconds into the final quarter, drilling a 26-yard field goal to boost the lead to 22-13. Nordin will continue to be a savior throughout the season, especially with the red zone woes. Through three games he has only thrown two touchdowns compared to two interceptions. Michigan's defense rose up for a stop, and Strebel hooked a 29-yard field goal attempt wide left.
TV: Noon, ET, Big Ten Network. He added a quarterback hurry and held his own against the run. Plenty of question marks remain, but at least not via a crash landing. Head coach him Harbaugh stressed it was a unit effort, including the snapper and holder, and one that gave MI a huge boost when it needed one. He came through with a pair of TFLs, putting on the sort of pressure that kept Air Force from getting off the ground.
