She told police she was asleep when her daughter went missing.
The police had briefly detained Wesley Mathews (37), the foster father of Sherin Mathews, the missing child, in connection with the case.
Police said Tuesday's search of the home a "natural progression of the investigation", WFAA reported.
Mathews told the police that he checked on Sherin about 3:15 am and she was gone, the affidavit said. She is not being named because she has not been charged with a crime. An Amber Alert was issued and then later canceled due to lack of new information, for the girl, identified as Sherin Williams.
According to Wesley, at about 3 a.m., he put Sherin outside and told her to stand next to a large tree that was behind a fence, about 100 feet south of the family's home and across an alley and even admitted to police that he knew coyotes had been seen in that specific area though, investigators have not found any indication that Sherin was dragged away.
According to NBC 5, Texas Child Protective Services removed the toddler's 4-year-old sister from the family Monday and placed her in protective custody as police continue to search for the missing child. According to police in the area, Mathews only reported Williams missing five hours after he left her outside their home.
"That does not seem like a normal response that one would do if you have a missing child", said police Sergeant Kevin Perlich, adding that is "certainly concerning us". "He elected to call the police shortly after 8 o'clock". "It's going to take us a little while to get through the electronic stuff we collected", Perlich said. "As far as why she was out there, how long she was out there, that's the questions we have for the parents". Investigators are looking through her parents' vehicles, computers and cellphones, as well as surveillance video from neighbors. "The 3-year-old is Asian, 36" tall, weighs 22 lbs., and has black hair and brown eyes.
Starr also tried to shed light on the parenting challenges that the couple faced after adopting the child from India, and why she was awake in the middle of the night to drink milk. The girl also suffered from developmental disabilities, making it hard for her to communicate. They were doing feedings throughout the day and night. Meanwhile, some community members have organized their own efforts to find the little girl.
