Cleveland Browns head coach Hue Jackson has benched rookie quarterback DeShone Kizer in favour of Kevin Hogan. Kizer's future in Cleveland could also be in question if the Browns land the top overall pick in next year's draft.
Hogan impressed after taking over from Kizer during their Week Five clash with the New York Jets, completing 16 of 19 passes for 194 yards and two touchdowns.
Hogan will make his first start of the season on Sunday against the Houston Texans. He gets the ball out quickly and accurately, neither of which Kizer could do. He began last season on the Browns practice squad and was elevated to the 53-man roster last October 11 - exactly one year before he won the starting job this season.
The 21-year-old Kizer, a second-round pick out of Notre Dame, went 0-5 as a starter and was last in the National Football League with a 49.5 passer rating, completing 81 of 159 passes for 851 yards with three touchdowns and nine interceptions.
Hogan, a fifth-round pick of Kansas City in 2016 out of Stanford, was signed to the Browns' practice squad when the Chiefs released him after the 2016 preseason.
"As an offense, we would be comfortable with either one of those guys back there", Thomas said.
Hogan has completed 26 of 38 passes for 37 yards with three touchdown passes and two interceptions. His numbers: 81-of-159 (50.9 percent), three touchdowns, nine interceptions and 12 sacks.
