Sydney real estate agent Melissa Hatheier has attracted a fair bit of attention after catching a shark with her bare hands on Monday and returning it to the ocean.

The clip was captioned, "Our in house Shark Wrangler Melissa Hatheier wrestling a shark out of Oak Park Rock Pool yesterday morning!"

After being alerted, Hatheier is filmed picking up the shark before carrying it in her arms over to the pool's ledge and releasing it into the ocean.

The video was uploaded to Facebook where it's been viewed more than nine thousand times.

Hatheier has become an internet sensation after the courageous act. The water was very clear and it was easy to see the shark swimming around.

"Everyone was saying, 'What do we do?' Mum even rang triple zero and the police came".

'I thought, you know what - if i can just herd him into the shallows I think I can pick him up. "I then grabbed him around the neck so he couldn't swing around and bite me".

The amateur shark wrangler swam into action after her mother called her about the shark episode in the beachside suburb of Cronulla. He wasn't that heavy but his skin was very rough, like sandpaper.

Ms Hatheier, an agent with Cronulla Real Estate, was swimming in the pool when she passed over it.

But - as the video shows - Melissa didn't let the warnings scare her.
