Three Upstate NY breweries win medals at prestigious Great American Beer Fest

Springfield Brewing Company brought home a gold medal from the Great American Beer Festival this weekend with its beer, Bull Creek Brown Ale.

The Great American Beer Festival is the premier United States beer and festival competition. Uberbrew's Canü won the silver medal in the American-Style Cream Ale category.

Crossroads Brewing Co. of Athens, south of Albany, for its Black Rock Stout in the Export Stout category.

The company won gold in the Honey Beer category for their Orange Blossom Common.

Co-owner Russell Fruits said it is gratifying not just to win the honors but to reach the point where Little Red Cap is having a significant influence on the way that style of beer is made by USA brewers. Winners were chosen out of 7,923 competition entries from 2,217 breweries in 50 states plus Washington, D.C.

In a ceremony at the Colorado Convention Center in Denver, award-winning breweries received prestigious gold, silver and bronze medals in 98 beer categories covering 161 different beer styles, establishing the best examples of each style in the country.

Owner of Lewis & Clark Brewing Company Max Pigman said "It's an honor to be recognized within such a large group of great craft brewers, we are very lucky to have a dedicated brewing staff lead by industry veteran Sean Tobin, that continues to produce award-winning beers day-in and day-out". Established in late 2016, the Mile Wide Brewery & Taproom is located at 636 Barret Avenue.

The event is the largest beer festival in the world.
