Shopian gun battle: Jammu and Kashmir security forces kill Hizbul Mujahideen terrorist

Indian security forces today killed Hizb-ul-Mujahideen terrorists after a prolonged gunbattle in Jammu and Kashmir's Shopian district.

In Baramulla district, the top operation chief of terror outfit JeM, Abu Khalid alias Shahid Showkat, was neutralised when security forces surrounded Ladoora village after being tipped off about the presence of the slain Pakistani terrorist.

Later in the evening, the security forces also shot dead three Hizbul Mujahideen terrorists in a house in Gatipora village in Shopian district, police said.

Earlier in the day, in a similar operation, Jammu and Kashmir's security forces killed top Jaish-e-Mohammed militant commander Umer Khalid in Ladoora area of North Kashmir.

"The fire was returned by the troops, triggering an encounter", the official said.

Police said that three militants have been killed and the encounter has ended.

He was reportedly trying to sneak into the Valley to take charge of the outfit.

The JeM militant was involved in three other killings as well, he added. The gunfight was continuing till last reports came in from the area. "However, one army man was killed in cross-fire". He is survived by his wife, Toshi Devi and two sons.
