The Pole had made it to the second round of the Tianjin Open following a victory over Ukraine's Kateryna Bondarenko.
Also in Tianjin, Russia's Maria Sharapova registered a straight-set win over Romanian Irina-Camelia Begu to reach the second round. The five-times Grand Slam victor exited the China Open last week in the third round at the hands of Romania's Simona Halep, the newly crowned world number one.
The 30-year-old Russian next plays Stefanie Voegele. Sharapova is still looking for her first title since returning from a 15-month suspension due to the use of a banned substance. But the Russian delivered a down the line forehand victor and put pressure on the Swiss No.196 who lost her serve for the second time as she hit a second double fault on the fourth break point.
The Russian tennis player, with 6-3 and 6-1 sets, has risen to semifinals, leaving 2-0 victorious.
Wildcard Sharapova advanced with five breaks of serve while losing her own once. Sharapova credited the victory to her aggressive game in the opening set, the momentum of which carried her all the way to the second set and the victory.
"We did a really good job of holding serve in the first set", Sharapova said after the match.
Aryna Sabalenka of Belarus is also through to the quarters, beating Zhu Lin of China 6-3 6-4.
