At least 21 kids were injured Saturday evening after a stairwell collapsed inside a recreation facility in the southwestern USA city of San Diego. Three or four may have suffered spinal injuries and were immediately transported to the hospital in "more serious" condition, SDFD spokesperson Steve Wright said.
"Once the majority of kids got up there the whole platform collapsed", he said.
A woman was also trapped beneath the rubble but was freed by rescue teams, KSWB reported.
According to the San Diego Fire Department, the injuries were considered minor to moderate.

Many parents were likely using a Groupon that had been offered for the evening's event, he said. The couple had headed back home to Chula Vista when one of their children called and said there had been an accident.
The cause of the collapse is under investigation. However, none of them were injured.
"It was a freak accident", Smith said. The training facility specializes in parkour training which is based on military obstacle courses. His son, however, who was attending a birthday party at the facility and was standing in line for pizza at the time, suffered minor injuries. "They had to wait to get in to see whether their children were injured or not".
