Every year International Diabetes Federation celebrates World Diabetes Day on November 14.

The main risk factors for women include poor diet and nutrition, physical inactivity, tobacco consumption and excessive use of alcohol. It reduces the symptoms of diabetes like frequent urination and thrusting.

Often considered to be an age-related ailment victimising people above 65 years-old, it can also become severe, thereby requiring insulin shots to keep sugar levels in check.

While beetroots may not be a popular food item with people when it comes to taste, its treasure trove full to the brim with incredible health benefits makes it the number one item of the food list.

Type 1 diabetes is a chronic condition where the pancreas produces little or no insulin.

The study also found less than a third (28.7%) of Scots said they definitely felt in control of their condition.

Dr Bhat said that children having type 1 diabetes must be allowed to use insulin pumps in exam halls where no gadgets are allowed.

One well-known sufferer of Type 1 diabetes is Prime Minister Theresa May.

In addition to insulin injections, Type 1 diabetics can further manage their disease with regular medical checkups to ensure adequate sugar levels, maintaining a balanced healthy diet and regular exercise.

Diabetes UK is calling for more provision of psychological support for people living with the condition across Scotland. "Family history is strong and obesity, metabolic syndrome and acanthosis nigricans (dark, velvety skin patches) are usually seen in young patients with type-2 diabetes", says Dr Tanvir Kaur, deputy director general, ICMR.
