Will it launch with the same massive hype as "Pokémon GO"?
The world went insane when it was first announced that Niantics will be working on an AR Pokemon game and now it looks like it is time for the Harry Potter fans to get excited as well as it was announced that Niactics will be working on a new AR game called Wizards Unite based on the Harry Potter universe.
When we first covered the game's reveal reports stated that it would be similar to Pokemon Go and Ingress in that it would require players to explore the real world using their phone's Global Positioning System via location-based events and challenges.
Very few games could hope to dethrone Pokémon GO, but Harry Potter Wizards Unite just might.
Niantic says the game will leverage the full stack of its platform while giving it the opportunity to create new technology and gameplay mechanics. "The beloved Harry Potter stories have captured imaginations worldwide for more than 20 years and soon we'll turn the fantasy into augmented reality, allowing fans and their friends to become wizards and witches".
"By exploring real-world neighbourhoods and cities across the globe, players will go on adventures, learn and cast spells, discover mysterious artifacts, and encounter legendary beasts and iconic characters", said a press release about the new game, according to MobileSyrup. Interactive Entertainment, and WB Games San Francisco. And luckily, we won't have to wait too long to get virtually ~sorted~ and start turning our smartphones into wands, because the game is tentatively set for a 2018 release, which is right around the corner. Harry Poter: Wizards Unit will be published by Niantic, and is probably coming some time next year.
