On Monday evening, Jimmy Fallon made an emotional return to The Tonight Show following a week-long hiatus from his late-night slot after his mum Gloria's passing, and Taylor Swift was there to make the hard time a little sweeter with a moving rendition of "New Year's Day".
Fallon ended by saying, "Mom, I will never stop trying to make you laugh".
"I grabbed her hand and squeezed, 'I love you, ' and I just knew we were in trouble".
He went on to thank fans for all the support he and his family had received since his mother's death. He and Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson pretended to be graduating from Oneonta High School in 1989; Fallon played the principal of Saugerties High School in a sketch called "Musical Morning Announcements" alongside Gabrielle Union; and Justin Timberlake interrupted Fallon's N.W.A. reference to tell him he's "Straight Outta Upstate New York" in the "History of Rap 6".

Fallon's mom Gloria died peacefully on November 4, at NYU Langone Medical Center in NYC with her family, including the host himself, at her bedside. A lot of us knew his mom Gloria, and she was the best. "Thank you for helping me and my family recover from this loss".
". and I would squeeze I love you too", he adds.
Fallon canceled the broadcast for his show the day before his mother passed away, citing a "private Fallon family matter".
Meanwhile, Letterman's 2014 segment starring Pattie and Gloria included advice from the mothers of Lance Armstrong, Liv Tyler, Beyoncé, Tyra Banks and the talk show host's own mom Dorothy Mengering, who died at 95 in April 2017.
