David Padgett, a Louisville alum who played under Pitino in the mid-2000s, is the Cardinals' acting head coach. According to the indictment, Dawkins and others discussed making payments to the family of high school recruit Brian Bowen in order to secure commitments to Louisville and, when he went to the National Basketball Association, to Dawkins.

The only mention of Coach Pitino in the indictment is a single statement by defendant Dawkins, who boasted that he had communicated with Coach Pitino about the scheme concocted by him and his co-conspirators. The indictment says that Dawkins asked coach 2 to call James Gatto to request that company-1 provide money requested by the family of the student-athlete which coach-2 agreed to do.

"He fell into our lap in recruiting". Christian Dawkins, who was indicted on Tuesday, says during a recorded conversation a coach agreed to call an Adidas executive for money to send the family of a recruit.

Pitino, the Hall of Fame basketball coach who guided UofL for 16 seasons, was sacked last month following the FBI's bombshell investigation into alleged bribery and corruption at several high-profile college basketball programs. "Obviously, now with the circumstances behind it, there's more to it than meets the eye". I don't think he's involved in this in any way. "I don't know. I just believe in that young man".

The details come from the September indictment of four assistant NCAA basketball coaches and Adidas executive James Gatto.

Pence's statement added, "Had Dawkins communicated with Coach Pitino, the Federal Bureau of Investigation wiretap and phone records would have captured the conversation".

Pitino was placed on leave, then fired. He was officially fired on October 16, at which point Adidas severed its personal agreement with him - one that reportedly paid the coaching legend 98 percent of the school's 10-figure endorsement contract.
