A BJP worker was killed on Sunday afternoon in Guruvayur town in the Thrissur district of Kerala. P Anand was attacked with sharp weapons by the men who first hit his motorcycle with their auto causing him to crash, police said.
His bike was hit by a vehicle first and when he fell into the road, the gang inflicted deep wounds on his body, leading to his death at 1330 hrs.
Anand was shifted to a private hospital in Chavakkad where he was declared brought dead. As per the reports, Anand was out on bail, accused in the murder case of CPM worker. Now the another BJP RSS worker was slashed to death in Thrissur district of Kerala.
A police official in Guruvayoor told DH that it was too early to confirm the motive behind the assault or details of the assailants. "Right now can not we give out any details or confirm about the political angle to the killing".
The police have taken the body to the Thrissur Medical College hospital and investigations are on. BJP has alleged that as many as 120 of its workers have been killed in Kerala since 2001, with 14 taking place since Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan came to power. The political killings involving the CPM and the BJP-RSS workers have dominated political discourse in the state since the CPM-led Left Democratic Front government assumed office in May a year ago. "CM Pinarayi must explain what his govt is doing to curb criminal elements in his rank".
Since 2016, Kerala has noticed the spate of political murders and blamed each of other for the killings.
Kerala has a long history of political violence.
