Salvation Army kicks off its Red Kettle campaign

Salvation Army to kick off Red Kettle Campaign

Bell ringers needed for holiday season

Online registration for bell ringing is also available. It wouldn't be Christmas without Bell Ringers.

KY3 will be out ringing next to the red kettle starting at 7 a.m. when Bass Pro opens. Friends and supporters are invited to ring in the kettle campaign and stuff the first kettle.

A Salvation Army spokesman says they will have to rely more heavily on grocery stores like Kroger to boost fundraising.

"It seems like, while the economy seems to be chugging along fairly well, a lot of people are struggling day to day, living paycheck to paycheck to meet their basic needs", said Major Gary Felton of The Salvation Army of McLean County. Winn-Dixie and Walmart locations will be added after Thanksgiving.

Families with children 12 years old and younger can register for assistance at a Cleveland Salvation Army Corps to receive an assigned time to get toys and a Dave's Supermarket gift card.

At 5:30 p.m. the Salvation Army plans to release just how much it hopes to raise.

That's why this year's Salvation Army Make A Difference campaign - including the Red Kettle campaign and donations by mail and online - is as important as ever, Felton said. All fund given to kettles stay in the community where they were received.
