"The suspect went in and tried to take some property and, when confronted, he produced a knife and stabbed one man", said Bloomington Police Chief Jeff Potts. A suspect is in custody.
A woman reported on Twitter that she was at the mall when the stabbing occurred about 6:45 p.m. When he left the fitting room to show the clothes to the other people in his party, the alleged assailant entered the fitting room to steal his belongings.
A second person was also stabbed trying to stop the initial theft and stabbing.
There is a large police presence at the mall as authorities investigate the incident.
Police say both stabbing victims suffered non-life threatening injuries.
Bloomington police said officers were at the scene but offered no further information.
"My daughter could see people lying on the ground who had been stabbed", Kim Schwieters, who was waiting to see St. Nick with her three children, told the Minneapolis Star Tribune. He got me!'. I knew something was not right. She said she hid underneath clothing and called police, who arrived in minutes.
