One officer was wounded and escaped, he said: "The rest of the police were killed, still in their beds".

The suicide vehicle reportedly hit a military convoy near Kandahar Air Field, a major USA base in Afghanistan, according to a provincial spokesperson in a Stars and Stripes report.

The Taliban issued statements on their social media accounts claiming the attacks.

"There are signs the Taliban may have used night vision technology to approach and surprise our forces, though they were spotted before reaching the posts and suffered casualties", Mehri said.

On Monday, eight Afghan police officers forces were killed when Taliban fighters attacked a security post in the capital city of the western province of Farah.

The country's southern provinces have seen a rise in violence against Afghan forces recently.

At least 40 Taliban killed and 35 others were wounded in a Taliban group attack on Monday night in Kandahar province, local officials said Tuesday.

The Taliban attacks have not only increased lately, but they are even beginning to employ new tactics.

On Oct. 19, 43 Afghan army soldiers were killed, nine injured and six others went missing after Taliban attacked an army camp in the same district and the clashes on that day also left 10 militants dead.

"Our forces resisted until they received reinforcements and air support", Zia Durrani said.
