The Trump administration has repeatedly highlighted MS-13 as it seeks to rally support for tougher immigration policies, as well as President Trump's campaign promise to build a wall on the southern border.

"This successful operation continues our efforts to attack MS-13 - both domestically and overseas - disrupting their financial networks", said Homan. Led by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, the operation swept up 214 MS-13 members in the United States and 53 members in El Salvador, the gang's home base, officials said.

MS-13 is described as one of the most unsafe criminal organization in the country and the D.C. area is no exception.

After Operation Raging Bull, ICE added six MS-13 fugitives to its list of "most wanted" individuals, including one fugitive wanted for homicide in Montgomery County, Texas, and five others wanted for their involvement in the homicide and attempted homicides of El Salvadoran police officers.

"Of the 214 arrests made in the US, 93 were arrested on federal and/or state criminal charges", said ICE Homeland Security Investigations Deputy Executive Associate Director Derek Benner.

Among those arrested, 16 were citizens, while the other 198 were foreign nationals.

Only 16 of those arrested were US citizens, the report states. Only five of the foreign nationals had legal status.

MS-13 members are known for carrying our brutal murders.

'These 267 arrests are the next step toward making this country safer by taking MS-13 off of our streets for good, ' Sessions said. The MS-13 gang members came from El Salvador (135), Honduras (29), Mexico (17), Guatemala (12), Ecuador (4) and Costa Rica (1).

There are about 30,000 MS-13 members worldwide, including 10,000 in the United States, according to information provided by the Justice Department.

In Baltimore, Maryland, the arrest and indictment of four MS-13 members on charges that include violent crimes in aid of racketeering and conspiracy to commit murder in aid of racketeering. Known for its motto "kill, rape, control", Members are known for their violent, retributive murders, which have included beheadings and the stabbing death of a 15-year-old girl.
