'It' Star Joins DC's 'Shazam!'

Following a breakout performance in New Line's box office record-breaker It, Jack Dylan Grazer has been added to the cast of the studio's DC Comic film, Shazam!.

DC's Shazam is continuing to gain momentum on the road to filming, as a major casting has been announced. The young actor is confirmed to play as Billy Batson' friend in the standalone film.

The 14-year-old actor - who is best known for playing Edward "Eddie" Kaspbrak" in the hit horror "IT' - is set to play Freddy, the best friend to teenager Billy Baston who will be played by Asher Angel, Deadline reports. The film centers on a boy named Billy Batson who transforms into the adult superhero Captain Marvel by uttering the magic words "Shazam!". While fishing with his grandfather Jacob, the Freemans go from innocent bystanders to victims of this battle with Jacob dying in the aftermath. The character has switched from supporting cast member to Captain Marvel Jr, superhero in training. However, it's not likely that the movie would introduce this character right away with the debut title. It could even lead to a future team-up for Freddy and Billy if all goes well...

Sandberg is on board to direct from a script by Henry Gayden and Darren Lemke. Production on the project is expected to kick off in February of next year.
